The Scenario

This was a 12-week project for HJS Accountants, a Southampton-based accountancy firm that relocated from their office of over 20 years to a new space in Ocean Village. Our brief was to deliver a complete fit-out working collaboratively with our client to ensure the new space worked for them as a business, bringing functionality and practicality together with sophisticated finishes.

The Process

As with every space we create, agreeing on the design and layout is the first task and ensures the project delivers against client expectations. Open plan working space to accommodate around 50 employees, together with cellular offices, touch-down points for privacy, and a large, open break-out space were non-negotiables, so the space plan was centred around these key requirements. The design was a moving feast and evolved considerably from start to finish, but once we had client approval, work could begin.

The Work

The space was an empty shell, but with the existing carpet tiles being re-used, the first job was to ensure these were carefully lifted and stored for preservation. For the main office, we created a blend of open plan working with individual break-out zones and a fun and inviting tea point. In addition, we built Directors’ Offices, a Board Room, and 2 private offices. Key features were 2 bespoke soundproof phone booths, Directors’ Snug to provide additional areas for private working, and a timber feature in the tea point to bring individuality and fun to the space. We used nature wall panelling for acoustic provision in rooms that housed TVs, which also provided a visually pleasing finish. Glass was used to create divisions within the space without losing the open plan feel. A lighting solution was installed, which was designed to work with the glass and enhance the natural light. In order to create the wow factor upon entry, we dropped the ceiling over the Reception area and used stylish wood-effect soundproof panels.

We worked with the Green Team Interiors to add colour and nature with replica planting in various places throughout the space, which brought a different texture to the final look. Other works included installation of new hard floors, internal decoration & signage, data and cabling, partitioning and joinery, air conditioning, external signage, furniture and greenery, and plumbing and installation of a kitchen.
